Authorities warned on Monday (August 10) that lightning, hot temperatures and strong winds could fuel new wildfires in Canada's British Columbia region, where the fast-moving Bald Range fire continues to spread.

The wildfire has grown to more than 13,600 hectares (33,600 acres) since it was discovered on Friday (August 7), nearly doubling in size over the weekend. Officials said it has triggered British Columbia's largest evacuation event so far this summer.

More than 20,000 people across the province have been forced to leave their homes. Canadian police said an 80-year-old woman died in the wildfire, marking a rare fatality in this year's fire season.

Canada has endured a hot summer that has fueled wildfires across remote forests and other regions. More than 4,600 fires have burned about 4 million hectares of land nationwide this year.
